This will then make them feel that the expectations on them are overwhelming and impossible to meet, leaving them without any motivation to even try and achieve all the things that they would like to and are capable of. Many teenagers carry around negative beliefs about themselves which they play on a loop in their head, harsh and critical narrative sets - not good enough, not clever enough, not good looking enough, slim enough, just not likeable. They often live with anxiety, depression and total lack of self belief.
